Day Light Harvesting saves up-to 30% Electricity

Day Light Harvesting is the concept of using freely available Sunlight during the day in offices and homes along with Normal Electrical Lighting.  The system involves sensing ambient lighting level using advanced Lux level sensors and adjusting the electrical lighting system automatically so that overall consumption of electricity is reduced.  A well designed Daylight Harvesting system guarantees a preset light level at your workplace at all times. The artificial light only starts to dim when this guaranteed light level is exceeded by the overall amount of light (artifical + daylight). As a consequence, dimming only takes place when there is more than the required light anyway and when you have correct light level on your workplace.

The highest energy savings with Daylight Harvesting typically coincide with the peak air conditioning cooling hours of the day. This is because maximum heat and light are closely associated and DLH ensures minimum lighting load when there is maximum heat & light available from outside. Therefore, Daylight Harvesting is a highly effective strategy for reducing peak loading

Modern day work culture & lifestyle have resulted in work & study places to remain open for 10-12 hours unlike the 8 hours working day in old times. This results in lesser average occupancy but comparatively higher consumption of electricity as nobody takes the pain of switching off lights or dimming lights manually where they are not needed.  DLH and dimming systems are best suited for such places and result in significant savings. Common applications of Daylight harvesting and dimming systems are modern offices, school & college buildings, hospitals, government buildings etc.
